An inter-faith delegation of 30 Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, and Muslim clergy members recently visited Thailand along with the Sewalanka Chairman, Mr Harsha Kumara Navaratne and three senior staff members.

The visit was organised in partnership with People’s Empowerment, a Thai non-governmental organisation, and the Department of International Relations at Chulalongkorn University.

The team first travelled to the south to share experiences with civil society leaders and practitioners who are trying to promote peace and reconciliation in the region.

They then returned to Bangkok to meet with intellectuals, who have worked on conflict issues in Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Burma. The participants particularly enjoyed the opportunity for extended dialogue with Chalida Tajaroensuk, Professor Pranee Thiparat, Ajaan Sulak Sivaraksa, and former Foreign Minister Surin Pitsuwan.

SASAKAWA Peace Foundation, Japan provided financial support for this valuable exchange.
