Sewalanka Foundation employee murdered in Karaveddy, Jaffna
Sewalanka Foundation has confirmed the deaths of a staff member and his mother, murdered by an unidentified armed group at their home in Karanavai, Karaveddy, Jaffna, at approximately 9pm on 1 September 2006.
The 27-year-old victim, Sathiyamoorthey Selvaroopan, completed his GCE/OL education at Colombo Hindu College and was recruited by Sewalanka Foundation as a social mobiliser in May 2006. He worked to serve the vulnerable communities in Vadamarachchi under the North-East Provincial Council-executed and Asian Development Bank-financed project entitled ‘North East Coastal Community Development’.
Sewalanka Foundation entirely condemns such shocking and brutal murders and requests that the local authority undertake a full investigation into these murders.
The Chairman and all staff members of Sewalanka Foundation wish to convey their sincere condolences to the family members of the deceased, and hope for a swift resolution to the murder investigation and a rapid recovery for Mr Selvaroopan’s injured wife and brother.
